2012 Election: We’re all doomed

Scientific Consensus A long list of individual scientists and scientific societies, including the National Academy of Sciences, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have released statements in recent years affirming a growing consensus that the globe is warming and human activity is to blame.

Observations throughout the world make it clear that climate change is occurring, and rigorous scientific research demonstrates that the greenhouse gases emitted by human activities are the primary driver.— Statement on climate change from 18 scientific associations

GOP Candidates And Science

I don’t believe … global warming is real. Do we have climate change? Yes. Is it a crisis? No. … Because the science, the real science, doesn’t say that we have any major crisis or threat when it comes to climate change.— CBS News, June 9, 2011

I don’t know who this guy is, but he’s the ONLY republican candidate with even the smallest hint of sanity. He stands out like the nerdy smart kid in a gym class full of dumb jocks. He still has faith in the sanity of the American population or he wouldn’t be risking going against the obvious “go for the dumb masses” vote.

I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy.— Twitter, Aug. 18, 2011

The minute that the Republican Party becomes the … anti-science party, we have a huge problem. We lose a whole lot of people that would otherwise allow us to win the election in 2012.

And this lady? Say what? It’s like we’re all strapped to chairs sitting around the mad hatters tea table! Fire up those coal power plants & crank up those refineries! Lets pollute till we black out the sun! Hurrah! Remember kids, more pollution equals higher standard of living! Is she the tea party candidate, or is she really satan trying to convince the world to destroy itself while making the populace think they’re making it better?

Carbon dioxide is not a harmful gas; it is a harmless gas … And yet we’re being told that we have to reduce this natural substance and reduce the American standard of living to create an arbitrary reduction in something that is naturally occurring in the Earth.— House floor speech, April 22, 2009

I think all these issues have to be settled on the base of real science, not manufactured science.— When asked about the “man-made climate change myth” and “green jobs”
at a campaign event in Spartanburg, S.C., Aug. 16, 2011

The thought of America’s leadership having these horrific anti-science tendencies isn’t what really scares me. It’s the fact that there might be enough people sharing the same views to elect them.  Lets see here… 2004 election: smart people lost. 2008 election: everybody lost, but enough smart people got up off their lazy butts to keep Palin as far away from the white house as possible, 2000 election: smart people lost.  I have to remind myself that this is simply the way the world is. There will always be far less people saying the the earth isn’t the center of the universe, the world is round & life as we know it evolves – than there are saying “burn him he speaks heresy!”

I think that what we should take from this data is not that republicans are dumb, it’s that vast majority of dumb people vote for republicans.
